FAREWELL TO VEN. RAMBODAGAMA NARADA THERO

After serving two years Ven. Ramodagama Narada Thero will be leaving to Sri Lanka during the 1st week of April 2016

He has been a dedicated Venerable and the services he has rendered o the devotees of Thames Buddhist Vihara are remarkable and unforgettable.

Therefore the devotees of our temple have organised a programme to bid him farewell on Sunday the 13th March starting at 3.00 PM.

SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING THAMES MEDITATION SOCIETY 21st February 2016 -Starting at 4.00PM

 

A SPECIAL   GENERAL MEETING OF THE THAMES MEDITATION SOCIETY (REGISTERED CHARITY   NO.289655) WILL BE HELD ON SUNDAY 21ST   FEBRUARY 2016 TO ELECT THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE AND THE GENERAL COMMITTEE FOR THE YEAR 2015-2016 AT THE THAMES BUDDHIST VIHARA   (49 DULVERTON ROAD, SELSDON,SURREY CR2 8PJ) STARTING AT 4.00 PM.

NOMINATIONS FOR THE   COMMITTEE SHOULD BE SUBMITTED TO THE SECRETARY BY NO LATER THAN SUNDAY 7TH FEBRUARY 2016 BY E-MAIL AT   thamesvihara1@gmail.com

Most Venerable Eheliyagoda Dhammapala Thero is due to leave to go back to Sri Lanka in mid- January.

We all know that he has done a great service to the Thames Buddhist Vihara and also to The Sri Lankan Community in the UK.

To honour him and pay our gratitude we have organised a farewell on Sunday the 10th January 2016 at the vihara premises. The Programme will start at 3.30 PM and at the end there will be a BODHI POOJA.

Please be kind enough to attend this programme.

Dinner will be provided to all who attend.

ANNUAL PRIZE GIVING OF THAMES VIHARA SUNDAY SCHOOL -2015

Thames Vihara Sunday School’s Annual Prize Giving 2015 was held in a grand scale on the 13th Dec. 2015 at the Vihara premises at 3.30 pm under the patronage of the acting Head of the vihara Ven. Eheliyagoda Dhammapaala thero with the other resident monks of the vihara.

The Day’s Programme started with administering Pansil by Ven. Rambodagama Naradha Thero.

The occasion was graced by many distinguished guests including The counsellor, Cultural and education of Sri Lanka High Commission, London, Mr.Manoj Warnapala, The Mayor of Haywards Heath, Councillor Mr. Sujan Wickramarachchi, Mr. Janaka Alahapperuma, and Dr. Herath Kularathna, the President of Thames Meditation Society and many others.

The Student who scored high marks for Buddhism and Sinhala at the Year-end test received certificates and trophies and also certificates were given for excellent attendance and performances. The Trophy for the Outstanding Overall Performance and the Student of the Year was awarded to Madushi Jayatilaka.

A huge thank goes to all the resident Venerable of the Vihara, the Thames Meditation Society and the Dhamma School Parents’ Committee in organising this event.

The Programme was a great success.

Programme for 2 day Meditation Retreat with Ven. PItigala Gunarathana 

9.15 a.m.-  9.30 a.m.  – Aajeeva Ashtamaka Seela

9.30 a.m.- 10.30 a.m. – Ven. Gunarathana Thero.

10.30 a.m.- 10.45 a.m.- Interval

10.45 a.m.- 11.30 a.m. -Meditation- Sitting/ Walking

11.30 a.m. – 1.15 p.m. Buddha Pooja followed by “Dawal Dana” to monks. (Yogis to bring their own lunch)

1.15 p.m.- 2.45 p.m.- Q&A session. It is preferable to write down the questions to be read out to the monk by a Yogi as access to the microphone by individual yogis will be difficult.

2.45 p.m. – 3 p.m.- Interval

3.15 p.m.- 4.15 p.m.-  Meditation

4.15 p.m. – 5.00 p.m. – Ven. Gunarathana Thero.

5.00 p.m. Anumodana.

It is said that those who chose to stay on after 5 p.m., could do so. The Sathara Sathipatthana will be discussed.
